who am I?
Fiona Kelly

I’m a journalist and gardener from Dublin – and I have killed more plants than you have
So why should you follow me? Well, I make mistakes so you don’t have to.
I began Fiona Grows Food because gardening has a bit of an image crisis. It’s all wellies and pruning roses and knowing the Latin name for everything. Not a bit sexy. It can all feel a bit exclusive. But I don’t believe in having green fingers – and I don’t think you need a degree in horticulture to try your hand at growing food. That is a skill we all deserve to cultivate.
I began gardening in 2012 and I knew nothing about plants, but over the years I have learnt through trial and error how to grow most of my own veggies – and I’ve had a wild ride along the way.
I have an allotment north county Dublin. I grow fruits and vegetables, get stung by a lot of nettles and generally make a show of myself in front of the other plot holders. I can usually be found in wildly inappropriate clothing and singing at the top of my voice while my neighbours look on horrified.
Where have you seen me?
You might have seen me on television, heard me on radio or seen me in your newspaper. I am a journalist, and the assistant chief sub-editor at the Irish Independent. I have written for the Irish independent, The Herald, Irish Daily Star, Buzz.ie and a number of gardening publications.
I have given talks and demonstrations at Bloom in the Park and have facilitated food-growing workshops at several music festivals and community events.
